About the Award

Is your teacher special?
Is your class truly extraordinary?

Every school year, there are teachers who light something up in their students — and classes that prove that learning together can be magical. The Romeoville Extraordinary Classroom Award exists to find them, celebrate them, and reward them with tools to keep doing what they do best.

🎤

Why Podcasting & New Media?

We believe that teaching a child to communicate — clearly, confidently, and creatively — is one of the most powerful gifts an educator can give. That's why our prize connects directly to STEM-based new media skills: podcasting, storytelling, and digital literacy. Real tools for real futures.

👨‍👩‍👧

Nominated by Families

We didn't ask superintendents to pick the winner. We asked the people who see the real impact every single day — parents, guardians, and the students themselves. Because the best teacher recognition isn't top-down. It's from the heart of a community that loves their classroom.

🏫

Open to All Illinois Schools

Public, private, charter, religious, or homeschool co-op — any Grade 3–6 classroom in Illinois was eligible. We believe great teaching happens everywhere, and great teachers deserve recognition regardless of their school's budget or profile.

🌱

A STEM Life Skills Mission

Romeoville School Supplies is committed to putting meaningful, curriculum-connected tools in the hands of classrooms that are already doing extraordinary work. This award is an extension of that mission — not a marketing stunt, but a genuine investment in Illinois education.

How It Worked

Simple, honest, community-driven

No essay contests. No campaign voting. No follower counts. Just a simple nomination from a family who wanted to say: "Our teacher deserves this."

1

A Parent or Student Nominated

Families submitted a short nomination telling us what makes their teacher or class extraordinary. No minimum length. No rules about format. Just: tell us why.

2

Our Team Read Every One

Every nomination was read by a real person. We looked for stories of genuine impact — creativity, dedication, community, and the kind of teaching that students will remember for decades.

3

Winner Contacted Directly

No public vote. No popularity contest. The winning teacher and class were contacted personally on May 10, 2026, and their school was notified with a congratulations package.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered

Can a teacher nominate themselves?
No — nominations must come from a parent, guardian, or student. This ensures the award reflects genuine community impact rather than self-promotion. Teachers are welcome to share the contest with their classroom families, but the nomination itself must come from a family member or student.
Is the contest open to religious schools?
Absolutely. The Romeoville Extraordinary Classroom Award is open to all Illinois schools serving Grades 3–6 — public, private, charter, and faith-based (Catholic, Islamic, Jewish, Christian, and any other tradition). Great teaching is great teaching, regardless of school type.
How was the winner selected?
Every nomination was read by a real member of the Romeoville School Supplies team. We selected based on the authenticity, warmth, and specificity of the story shared. We were looking for evidence of genuine impact — not the most nominations, not the longest essay, but the most real and moving account of a teacher or class making a difference.
What is the "Introduction to New Media for Teachers" course?
It's a 3-hour, website-based professional development course designed specifically for Grade 3–6 teachers. It covers audio podcasting (Module 1) and video podcasting (Module 2), with a focus on STEM connections, life skills, free web-based tools, student roles, and safe publishing. It's entirely self-paced and accessible on any device with a browser.
Will there be a 2027 award?
We certainly hope so! The response from Illinois families was heartwarming. Visit romeovilleschoolsupplies.com and follow Romeoville School Supplies for announcements about future award cycles. We'd love to make this an annual tradition.
My child's nomination didn't win. Will their teacher know they were nominated?
We encourage you to tell your teacher yourself — the fact that you took the time to write a nomination is a beautiful gift on its own. Print it out, email it, or read it to them. Every teacher nominated this year did something right. We're grateful to every family who participated.
